Beauty
(2004 - 2005)
While exploring the notion of beauty, a series of portraits were made. The main reason to choose beauty was its apparent subjectivity, hence its open interpretation. Most people, as probably expected, would associate the word with a state of being attractive and desirable. However, this rather limits the people that could potentially enjoy such a description, as it would appear to be more fitting to younger people; yet older generations could enjoy their own share of beauty. The project attempts to explore the boundaries of beauty, from the perspective of aging and its effects; while focusing on expressive facial elements such as the eyes and the mouth. These photographs are a representation of the subjectivity and temporariness of youth, the irreversibility of the passage of time and their complementary correlation, which we are all subject to.
