Project Statement

Having observed refugees within the past years, the vast majority describe their experience of being forced to leave their country as an overwhelming one, which results in more than the brain can handle. The series attempts to visually explore the congestion one feels, with the bombardment of stray images – accompanied with mixed emotions which stretches ones existence to their limits – during their perilous and often fatal journey. This state leads towards rendering such images as a blur. At the same time, the works act as an exploratory visit into the sub-consciousness of the viewer; as the guesswork involved in interpreting them, perhaps is as personal as it gets in today’s world. This project gave the opportunity to collaborate with Kanika Sharma, an aspiring poet, whose writing endeavoured to add a dimension which aims to help the viewer to further feel the emotion the artworks seek to evoke. Kanika’s work revolves around interacting with immigrants in India, among others.
